What is a robotic XYZ liquid handling platform?
A robotic liquid handling platform is an automated XYZ arrangement of pipetting tips, operating under software control, and used to automate liquid handling procedures and applications in the laboratory

Who is Sias?
Sias is a company located in Hombrechtikon, Switzerland, with expertise in the development, production and application of automated liquid handling robotic and OEM modules. Sias products are sold and supported internationally via a network of sales partners, and also form the robotic core of many OEM products.

What is Xantus?
Xantus is a robotic XYZ liquid handling workstation, available from Sias as a bench model, or as an OEM component

What is an Ixion robot friendly microplate centrifuge?
A robot friendly microplate centrifuge is a module used to spin microplates as part of a fully automated assay. The Ixion centrifuge from Sias is a module that can be easily integrated into a robotic sample processor, such as the Xantus platform. The Ixion facilitates loading and off loading plates by the Xantus robotic handling device.

What can Sias offer me as an OEM, over other suppliers of Robotic platforms?
Sias is a private and independent company, owned by its founders and employees, as well as some of our sales partners and suppliers. Our core focus is robotics, and our expertise complements your own application know-how. We can design, develop and manufacture, and we can keep costs down by utilising the very flexible Xantus as the basis of your robotic solution.

How does Xantus differ from other robotic sample processors on the market?
Xantus is the third generation of robotic liquid handling platforms, and uses state of the art mechanics and electronics to achieve a truly modular product range, offering flexibility, precision, accuracy, upgradeability, and reliability. It looks good too…

How can Xantus save me money?
Xantus utilises a revolutionary new pump design, eliminating the need for costly replacement of syringes and valves.

The micro annular gear pumps are installed in the robotic arm, eliminating the need for space consuming syringe pumps and extended lengths of feed tubing. Operating on a positive displacement method, the pumps can precisely pipette volumes from 1 µl to 1 ml. This design feature minimises maintenance costs for the customer, and service costs for the supplier.

And the Xantus is skillfully engineered to require minimum maintenance, and to offer extreme serviceability in case of failure, so minimising downtime.

How many sampling tips can I have on my Xantus?
Each arm is constructed from one or two arm sections, and each section can carry 1, 2 or 4 pipetting tips, or a robotic handling tool.
Standard configurations are:

Model Arm 1 Arm 2
40 00 4 pipetting tips none
44 00 8 pipetting tips none
40 0H 4 pipetting tips robotic handler
44 0H 8 pipetting tips robotic handler
00 0H No pipetting tips robotic handler

Note: Xantus may be available with fewer than 4 tips, and some configurations may be upgradeable. Please contact Sias for further information.
Workstations are available in 3 standard deck widths – 100cm, 150 cm and 200 cm, with our without X-range extension beyond the deck. Other widths are available on request

Can the robotic handler to reach outside the deck to an external module?
Yes. You can order a Xantus with an extended X-rail, so the range of the robotic handler reaches beyond the deck. The overhang can be on either side of the deck, or both.
TOP
What are the available options on the standard platform?
You have plenty of choice, for example sample tracking by bar code, plate shaking, incubation, washing, reading and even centrifugation. You can have disposable tips (or a combination of washable and disposable). Other modules are available, and you can decide the exact configuration and size of your Xantus. And the software offers great flexibility too…

None of the standard configurations meet my needs. Can I order a customised version?
Call us to discuss your needs! A “combi-arm” of tips plus handler may be available as an OEM module.

Xantus is also available as an OEM module, and can be delivered with or without the deck and frame. The open geometry of the system simplifies integration.

Why is the Xantus pipetting arm so special?
The core component of the Xantus is the pipetting arm, which houses all functionality, including the pumps. The Xantus arm is available with 1-8 YZ pipetting modules, each with a dedicated pump, or a robotic handler device. A combination of pipetting tips and handler may also be available.

This entire module can be simply integrated into an OEM development, with or without the deck.

What is the smallest OEM component I can buy from Sias?
Sias' business model is to supply functional robotics and associated modules. To speed your development project and to minimise re-engineering, we generally supply the Xantus pipetting arm with up to 8 tip XY drives or robotic handler, mounted on a suitably sized X rail.

What software can I get from Sias to drive my Xantus OEM module, and what must I provide myself?
End users and Private Label customers can get fully optimised application from their local Sias provider (see Links).

For OEM customers, Plug and play modules simplify the composition of an application system based on the Xantus. The open geometry of the Xantus design facilitates integration of the whole platform, or merely the robotic arms. RS232, multiple I/O ports and a CAN bus facilitate systems integration.

The PC driven X-AP software - an easy to learn tool with drag and drop user interface - enables implementation of liquid handling tasks. Sias also offers a Developer Kit (SDK), which includes the Sias I/O DLL and X-Util COM-object together with supporting documentation, enabling OEM customers to write a specific software interface for the Xantus in Microsoft C++, Borland C-builder and visual basic.
