Throughout the NL tankers collect all
the milk produced daily by dairy herds, and samples
from each farm are sent to a central milk testing laboratory
for analysis prior to processing. Several Xantus based
platforms have been linked together at the laboratory
and optimised to automate protein, fat, and microbiological
analysis – all these parameters are used to calculate
the reimbursement due to the farmer for the milk delivered.
Each Xantus platform has one pipetting arm (4 fixed
tips) and a robotic arm with tube gripper.
A RF chip in each sample bottle identifies
the farm where it was produced by GSM and GPS coordinates.
A Central Computer System at the laboratory defines
the tests to be performed for each sample and stores
this information on the RF chip. Samples are then tracked
throughout the process of aliquoting.
Processors (from Raudszus Electronics
GmbH) control the unique collaboration between the Foss
NIR analyser and the SIAS Xantus platforms.
